Chief Economic Advisor backs proposal to bring petrol under GST New Delhi, Mar 1 (KNN) Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) K V Subramanian has backed a proposal to bring petroleum products under the ambit of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

“It will be a good move, but the decision rests with the GST Council,” Subramanian said during a recent interaction with FICCI FLO members.

Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had also urged Union Finance Minister Nirmalya Sitharaman to bring petroleum products under the ambit of the GST.

He, however, said the decision will have to be taken by the GST council.

Earlier, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had also urged Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to do the same.

The suggestions in this regard come at a time when fuel prices in the nation have been rising in a sustained fashion over the past weeks.
