To operate on concept of energy management with zero emission and green ship

Panaji: Chowgule Shipbuilding Division (SBD), Loutolim, announced the delivery of its sixth vessel to its Netherlands based client, Wijnne & Barends, recently.

The company said that, it had signed a contract for six vessels in 2017 for which the deliveries started from June 2019.

“The energy-efficient ice class vessels are first of its kind to be built in India. The vessels have a deadweight of 4,200 tons, overall length of 98.2 metres, breadth of 13.4 meters, depth of 7.8 meters and draft of 5.6 meters. They are designed and built to meet most recent environmental guidelines applicable in shipping industry (Tier III standards).???

Arjun Chowgule, executive director, Chowgule and Company, disclosed that the team at Chowgule SBD, worked relentlessly to meet delivery schedules despite the Covid-19 pandemic. “The workforce commitment made it possible to deliver four vessels after the first lockdowns started. They worked with full resolve to overcome various challenges especially related to the supply chain. The shipyard has again created a benchmark due to its experienced and committed team,??? he said.

Chowgule SBD has also got a contract to build six high energy-efficient new electric hybrid vessels for AtoB@C Shipping AB, the Swedish unit of Finland’s ESL Shipping Ltd. This is the first large order for lower carbon emission ships in India.

Deliveries of the lower carbon emission ships will commence from the third quarter of 2023. The 5,350 DWT hybrid ice class general cargo ship will be propelled by a diesel electric hybrid propulsion system, with battery back-up system for silent operation in different modes like peak shaving mode, power take- in and power take home modes for operation in Scandinavian countries. This ship will operate on concept of energy management with zero emission and green ship, said the company.
