Highlighting the achievements of farmers in the state, the GCCI felicitated recipients of the Goa state awards for farmers.

Five farmers Rajat R. Prabhu from Nirankal-Ponda, Gasper Fernandes from Anjuna-Bardez, Rajendra J. Desai from Pawangal-Dharbandora, Sanjay S. Rane from Wadawal-Bicholim and Shekhar Parashtekar from Parashtem-Pernem, were felicitated for their innovative and outstanding contribution to the agriculture sector.

GCCI, president Ralph de Sousa, congratulated the farmers for becoming agri-entrepreneurs instead of choosing government or corporate jobs.

Farmer Prabhu, the Krishi Ratna awardee opted to do his BBA in agriculture from Dapoli instead of a degree in engineering as his farmer father wanted him to do, while Parashtekar who won the Fr. Inacio Almeida award for organic farming not only does vermi-composting for his own farm but has also been empowering his neighbours and others with the skills.

Present in the award function was GCCI, chairman of the Agriculture & Food Processing Committee, Orlando Rodrigues, and mentor Dr Sangam Kurade.

Earlier, Miguel Braganza introduced the five persons being felicitated and gave a brief background of their work, assistant director GCCI Ambika Dhakhenkar, anchored the felicitation programme.
