Indian Apparel industry lauds relief on wages #FinanceIndia #StockMarketNEWS
New Delhi, Aug 24 (KNN) Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) chairman Dr A Sakthivel thanked the Minister of State for Labour and Employment (I/C) Santosh Kumar Gangwar for extending the unemployment benefit scheme by one more year to support workers affected by Covid-19 pandemic.

“I thank the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, the Government of India and the ESI corporation for the very important decisions taken towards improvement in its service delivery mechanism and providing relief to workers affected by Covid-19 pandemic,” Dr Sakthivel said in his letter to the Minister.

The extension of the Atal Bimit Vyakti Kalyan Yojna (scheme) for one more year up to June 30th, 2021, the relaxation of the existing eligibility conditions and enhancement of the amount of relief for workers who lost their job during the pandemic will be extremely helpful for the workers to sail through the crisis, he said.

“We note with gratitude the important relaxation in the criteria such as enhancement of payment of relief to 50 per cent of average of wages from earlier 25 per cent of average wages and payable up to maximum 90 days of unemployment, and becoming due for payment after 30 days instead of the earlier period of 90 days,” the chairman added.

He also welcomed the decision to strengthen the ICU/HDU services in ESIC hospitals especially by establishing ICU/HDU services up to 10 per cent of total commissioned beds in all ESIC Hospitals.

It is highly commendable that the ESI Corporation has taken this timely action towards mitigating the effect of Covid-19 on its stakeholders besides providing additional infrastructure for medical care to the general public, he said.

“Your kind facilitation of the entire process would go a long way in alleviating the concerns of the workers and employees thereby leading to the smooth operations of the Industry, for which we shall be grateful,” Dr Sakthivel added.
